Privacy Policy
How rateprobability.com handles your data.
This Privacy Policy explains how RateProbability Inc., a corporation incorporated under the Canada Business Corporations Act ("RateProbability," "we," "us," or "our"), collects, uses, and protects information when you visit or interact with rateprobability.com (the "Site"). By using the Site or creating an account, you agree to the practices described here. This policy should be read together with our Terms of Use.
1. Information we collect
a) Information you provide
If you create an account, we collect the information you provide during registration, such as your email address and password. Passwords are not stored in plain text; they are hashed by our authentication provider.
b) Billing information
If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment information (such as your credit or debit card number, billing address, and transaction history) is collected and processed by our payment processor, Stripe, Inc. We do not receive, store, or have access to your full card number. Stripe provides us with limited transaction data (such as the last four digits of your card, card brand, billing country, payment status, and subscription dates) so that we can manage your account and respond to billing inquiries. Stripe's handling of your payment data is governed by its Privacy Policy.
c) Information collected automatically
When you access the Site, some information is collected automatically:
- Standard web server logs (e.g., IP address, user agent, pages visited, timestamps).
- Aggregated usage data (e.g., which pages are most popular, approximate location derived from IP).
- Information stored in cookies or local storage (e.g., your preferences such as display settings).
2. Account and authentication
Account creation and authentication are provided by Clerk (clerk.com), a third-party authentication service. When you create an account or sign in, Clerk processes your credentials and manages your session. Clerk may store your email address, hashed password, session tokens, and related account metadata on its infrastructure. Clerk's handling of your data is governed by its own privacy policy, available at https://clerk.com/legal/privacy.
3. Analytics and performance
We may use analytics tools to understand how the Site is used. These tools help us see patterns in traffic, such as:
- Which pages are visited and for how long.
- Basic technical information (browser type, device type, approximate region).
- Referring pages or links that led you to the Site.
Analytics products generally set cookies or similar identifiers. In jurisdictions where consent is required by law (such as the EU/EEA), these tools are only loaded after you have provided consent through an on-site consent banner.
4. Cookies, local storage, and similar technologies
The Site uses cookies, local storage, and similar technologies for purposes including:
- Authentication: When you sign in, our authentication provider sets session cookies on a subdomain of rateprobability.com (e.g., clerk.rateprobability.com) to maintain your signed-in state. These cookies are essential for account functionality.
- Preferences: Remembering your display settings, dismissed banners, and other preferences.
- Analytics and advertising: Third-party analytics and advertising services may set their own cookies. In jurisdictions where consent is required by law, a consent banner is presented allowing you to accept or decline these cookies.
You can control or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you disable certain cookies, some parts of the Site — including account sign-in — may not function as intended.
5. Advertising and third-party partners
We may use third-party advertising networks or monetization platforms to display ads on free-tier pages. These services may use cookies, local storage, or other identifiers to:
- Measure the effectiveness of ads.
- Limit how often you see a particular ad.
- Serve ads that are more relevant at an aggregate or contextual level.
These third parties may collect or receive information from your browser (such as IP address, user agent, and page URLs) in order to provide their services, subject to their own privacy policies. In jurisdictions where consent is required by law, advertising tags and related cookies are only loaded after you have provided consent through a consent banner. Paid Trader-tier subscribers do not see ads on the Site.
6. How we use information
We use the information collected to:
- Operate, maintain, and secure the Site and user accounts.
- Authenticate users and manage access to Site features.
- Process payments and manage subscriptions.
- Monitor performance and reliability.
- Understand aggregate usage patterns to improve content and design.
- Communicate with you about your account, billing, or changes to our terms or policies.
- Detect abuse, fraud, or attempts to harm the Site or its users.
7. Third-party service providers
We use the following third-party services to operate the Site. Each acts as a data processor on our behalf and is governed by its own privacy policy:
- Clerk (clerk.com) — authentication, account management, and session handling.
- Stripe (stripe.com) — payment processing and subscription billing.
- Google Analytics — website traffic and usage analytics.
- Journey by Mediavine — advertising and ad serving on free-tier pages.
- Cloudflare — hosting, content delivery, and security.
- Xignite (xignite.com) — market data provider. Xignite does not receive any personal information about Site users.
8. Data disclosure and sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose your information to third parties only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers: To the third-party processors listed in Section 7, solely for the purposes of operating the Site.
- Legal requirements: When we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request (such as a subpoena or court order).
- Protection of rights: To enforce our Terms of Use, protect our rights, privacy, safety, or property, or that of our users or the public.
- Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, sale of assets, or other corporate transaction. If such a transfer occurs, we will require the acquiring entity to honour this Privacy Policy with respect to any personal information previously collected.
9. Data security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we collect and store, including the use of HTTPS encryption for all Site traffic, server-side JWT verification for access control, and limiting access to personal data to systems that require it. Payment data is handled entirely by Stripe and never touches our servers.
However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security and are not responsible for unauthorized access that occurs despite our reasonable safeguards.
10. Legal bases (where applicable)
Depending on your location, our use of your information may be based on one or more legal grounds, such as:
- Contractual necessity, where processing is required to provide your account, subscription, and associated features.
- Legitimate interests in operating and improving the Site.
- Consent, where you actively agree to optional cookies or analytics/advertising tools via a consent banner.
- Compliance with legal obligations, where we must retain certain records.
11. Data retention
Account information (such as your email address and account preferences) is retained for as long as your account remains active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal information within a reasonable period, subject to any legal obligations requiring us to retain certain records.
Billing records (such as invoice history and subscription dates) may be retained after account deletion as required by applicable tax and accounting laws.
Server logs and analytics data are retained for a period that is reasonably necessary for the purposes described above. Third-party providers (such as analytics or advertising partners) may define their own retention periods in their respective privacy policies.
12. International access and data transfers
The Site may be accessed from different countries. By using the Site, you understand that information may be processed and stored in the country or countries where our servers and third-party providers are located (including Canada and the United States), which may have different data protection laws than your country.
13. Your rights and controls
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Delete your account and associated personal data.
- Withdraw consent for optional data processing (such as analytics or advertising cookies), where a consent mechanism is provided.
- Object to or restrict certain types of processing.
- Data portability, where applicable under your local law.
You can also:
- Adjust your browser settings to block or delete cookies.
- Delete your account through your account settings or by contacting us.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within a reasonable time and in accordance with applicable law.
If you are located in Canada and are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. If you are located in the EU/EEA, you may contact your local data protection supervisory authority.
14. Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) setting that sends a signal to websites you visit. There is currently no universally accepted standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals. The Site does not currently respond to DNT signals. You can control tracking through your cookie and browser settings as described in Section 4.
15. Children's privacy
The Site is not directed at individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a person under 18, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us at [email protected].
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If we make material changes that affect how we handle your personal information, we will notify registered users by email or through a notice on the Site. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
